1. Laguna Dudu, Cabrera
The undisputed champion. Two freshwater lagoons connected by an underground tunnel, 32 meters deep, with water so clear you can see the bottom in the shallow areas. The 10-meter cliff jumping platform and zipline make it an adventure destination, while the Taino cave art adds historical depth.

2. Laguna Dudu, Cabrera
A photogenic sinkhole with striking blue water, surrounded by towering limestone walls draped in vegetation. Part of Hoyo Azul, which means it is well-maintained but also more commercial. The 6-meter cliff jump into the blue pool is the main attraction.
3. Hoyo Claro, Bavaro
A jungle cenote near the Cabrera resort area. Less developed than Laguna Dudu, with a rope swing and a natural platform for jumping into the emerald-green water. A good option if you are based in Cabrera and want a cenote experience without the long drive to the North Coast.
4. Laguna Dudu, Puerto Plata
Three underground lakes inside a massive cave system in the capital city. Each lake has different mineral content giving them distinct colors. You cross one lake by boat to reach a hidden open-air lagoon. Historic and atmospheric, but no swimming allowed in the main caves.

The hills around Cabrera and the North Coast hide several lesser-known cenotes that rarely appear in guidebooks. Some are only accessible on foot through farmland. The best way to discover them is with a local guide from Cabrera who knows the terrain.

Before you book
- Freshwater does not hold you up like the sea does. If you are used to floating in salt water, take the first few metres slowly.
- Sunscreen and repellent both wash off into the water, so put them on well before you arrive out of respect for the place.
- Weekends fill with local families and the queue for the platform gets long. A weekday morning is a different experience.
